The Governing Council of the International Institute for the Unification of Private Law (UNIDROIT) adopted the UNIDROIT Principles on Digital Assets and Private Law<\/b> in May 2023, concluding a process formally initiated in November 2020. The working group met eight times, ultimately addressing over three hundred suggestions from around the world in its final session.<\/p><\/p>\n\n

LegalCripto by BAES, An Excellence Research Group of the Generalitat Valenciana took on the task of preparing Reflections on these Principles in both English and Spanish, as well as a Spanish translation of the PrinciplesMore than twenty-five academics from nine universities are involved in the project, enriched by the valuable experience of notaries, registrars, and leading professionals from the cryptographic and legal sectors.<\/p><\/p>\n\n

These Principles and Reflections have generated significant international interest, which has led to the organisation of this international congress in Spain. The event features the participation of the Chair of the UNIDROIT Working Group, Prof. Hideki Kanda, as well as Prof. Neil Cohen, who was involved in the early stages of the American Law Institute\u2019s (ALI) work on the digital economy. Additionally, Profs. Edwin Smith and Steven Weise, responsible for incorporating these advancements into law through the reform of the Uniform Commercial Code (UCC), will join the Secretary-General of UNIDROIT, Prof. Ignacio Tirado, to provide context from their respective organisations.<\/p><\/p>\n\n
